Cash is needed to purchase fruits and vegetables, especially in the winter months. SnowCap can access food at the Oregon Food Bank for $.05 per pound. You can see why we say it is better to give cash rather than buy food. One can of soup is less than a pound in weight. SnowCap can get this can of soup from the Oregon Food Bank for less than $.05, but it would cost you much more to buy it and donate it. We can feed more people with your cash than with your cans.
This is not true if you want to donate baby food. We have to purchase baby food at market prices so it would help if you bought it first and donated it to us.
Milk is always an urgent need because most of the people who eat from a SnowCap food box are children. Fresh milk is the best choice, but canned and dry are also useful. We can get canned and dry through the Oregon food bank, but fresh is purchased at market prices. If you would like to see children get fresh milk it would be better for you to purchase the milk and bring it to us.
